P. Oliver Erdmann

P. Oliver Erdmann, age 80, of Philip, South Dakota, died June 4, 2009, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

P. Oliver Erdmann, better known as Oliver to his family and friends, was born November 14, 1928, in Wellsville, Kansas, the son of Paul John and Ida M. (Millburn) Erdmann. Oliver graduated from Philip High School on May 15, 1946. On May 21, 1946, Oliver entered the United States Navy, serving until March 19, 1948.

Survivors include one son, Gene Erdmann of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three daughters, Paula Stone and her husband Johnny of Lubbock, Texas, Mitzi Houska of Moscow, Idaho, and Rose Curtis of Gillette, Wyoming; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, James "Spike" Erdmann and his wife Sally of Meade, Oklahoma, and DeWayne Erdmann and his wife Mildred of Claremore, Oklahoma; one sister, Mary Alice Powers and her husband Bob of San Bernardino, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Dianna Erdmann; a son-in-law, Ken Houska; and two sisters, Maggie and Katie. 

An avid fisherman and sports fan, Oliver was well known and liked by many in Philip and the surrounding area. He will be missed by all.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 9, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ray Deisch officiating.

Interment with military honors by the Sturgis Honor Guard was held Tuesday, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Wall.
