Notes From the Editor
An article comment was submitted by Nansie Cleaveland concerning the article " 'Little House on the Prairie' baby Carrie a Haakon County homesteader" in the May 19 issue of the Pioneer Review.
Cleaveland wrote, "Carrie's claim was a preemption, not a homestead. She had to live there only six months before paying $1.25 per acre to purchase the land. Carrie, and a group of her single and married friends from De Smet, all filed on claims near each other, so that they had a network of support. The Morrisons were friends from De Smet. You can read about Carrie here: http://www.pioneergirl.com/pe_carrie.htm.
As a full-time reseacher, I have visited Carrie's claim many times."
