National High School Rodeo Finals results
The South Dakota High School Rodeo was held this year Wednesday through Sunday, June 22-26, at the Roundup Rodeo Grounds in Belle Fourche. The top four in each event qualified to compete in the 2011 National High School Rodeo Finals, Sunday through Saturday, July 17-23, in Gillette, Wyo.
Area participants in the NHSRF were Trey Fortune, Milesville, in boys cutting and saddle bronc; Travis Nelson, Philip, in saddle bronc; Wyatt Kammerer in steer wrestling; and Jade Nelson, Midland, with partner Levi Lord, Rapid City, in team roping.
In performance four, the morning of Tuesday, July 19, J. Nelson and Lord earned third place in team roping with a time of 7.63.
In performance nine, the evening of Thursday, July 21, Fortune earned first place in saddle bronc with a score of 74. During the same performance, J. Nelson and Lord earned third place in team roping with a time of 7.67.
In performance 12, the evening of Friday, July 22, Kammerer claimed ninth place in steer wrestling with a time of 7.07. In the same performance, T. Nelson scored a 66 in saddle bronc to earn second place.
In the second go-round, on July 23, Kammerer took 36th place in steer wrestling with a time of 7.07. Fortune held on to second place in saddle bronc with a score of 74, and T. Nelson was not far behind in 13th place with a score of 66. J. Nelson and Lord came away with ninth place in team roping with a time of 7.67.
