Mike Shrader, 55, of Pierre, S.D., died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at his home in Pierre
Mike was born June 30, 1958, in Sioux Falls to James and Barbara (Jessop) Shrader. He grew up in Sioux Falls, Philip and Ft. Pierre. While attending school in Ft. Pierre, he participated in track and cross country he also played the saxophone and won the John Phillips Sousa Award. He graduated from Stanley County High School in 1976. After high school, he attended Black Hills State for two years before moving to Arizona to work construction.
He moved back to South Dakota and worked on the Olson Ranch near Midland before moving to Spearfish to work construction again. In 2008, he moved back to Pierre to be closer to the river he loved and started working for department of transporation in 2013 as a mechanic.
He was united in marriage to Lynette Thum on April 1, 2013, in Pierre. They made their home north of Pierre where Mike enjoyed the country living. Mike was an avid fisherman and was on the river anytime he had a chance. He also enjoyed reading and collecting “treasures” that he would find.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lynette, of Pierre; son, Zachary Shrader of Bemidji, Minn.; parents, Jim and Barb Shrader of Spearfish; and brother, Bob Shrader of Spearfish.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myrtle and Lyman Jessop and Clifford and Hazel Shrader.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitewood Presbyterian Church, Whitewood, S.D.
