Maurice Handcock is newest Crew Agency insurance agent

Maurice grew up in the Long Valley area and was a farmer and rancher for 20 years. He then sold equipment for Baye and Sons in Philip, and worked at Headlee Enterprises in Kadoka. Most recently he has been manager of the Midwest Co-op grain elevator in Kadoka for the past 10 years.

"Grady, Tom, Rusty and I feel very fortunate to have Maurice join our agency," Bernice Crew said. "His knowledge of agriculture, the area, and the people will make him a valuable asset to Crew Agency." Maurice has recently completed the licensing requirements in South Dakota. His duties will include the selling and servicing of both multi-peril crop insurance and crop hail insurance in the agency's western South Dakota area.

Handcock's wife, Cathie (Uhlir) also grew up in Jackson County just outside of Kadoka. "She is very excited about this opportunity for me," he said. Maurice and Cathie have been long-time residents of Kadoka, and raised their family of three boys and one girl in Kadoka.

His hobbies have changed over the years. Maurice said, "I still enjoy watching high school sports, but softball and the kids' rodeo have given way to golf and the follow-the-grandchildren thing."

"I've always known about Crew Agency and was excited to start working for them," said Handcock. I thought it was time for a change, and this was a good move to make. I'll still be working with many of the same customers as at the elevator, but only in another capacity. Now I'll be traveling to Cactus Flat instead of going to the end of Main Street to work," he said. "I've always been a people person and I will enjoy meeting the people and doing some one-on-one visiting with our clients."
