Margaret L. Durnill

Margaret L. Durnill, age 93, of Philip, died Friday morning, August 24, 2007, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Services were held Monday, August 27, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating.

Music was provided by Marilyn Millage, pianist, and the Haakon County Crooners, directed by Marlis Doud. Ushers were Don Haynes and Rod Seim. Pallbearers were Bill Buls, Martin Nelson, Tyrone and Harlan Moos, Chuck and Bill O'Connor.

Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.

Margaret L. Braddock was born May 23, 1914, at Miller, SD, the daughter of James F. and Laura (Myles) Braddock. She grew up on the north edge of Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1932. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. She returned to Philip where she worked for Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Triola.

Margaret was united in marriage to Clarence "Skipper" Durnill on August 1, 1936, in Rapid City. They made their home on a ranch 22 miles north of Philip for 10 years before moving back to Philip. They continued to operate a small farm northeast of Philip but spent the winter months in California or Arizona from 1975 to 1995. Skipper preceded her in death on February 11, 1996.

Margaret was a member of the United Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Bad River Senior Citizens, all of Philip.

Grateful for having shared her life include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Skipper, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Edward T. Braddock; a half-brother, Frank Braddock; two half-sisters, Frances Hoyt and Maude Root.

A memorial has been established to the Haakon County Prairie Transportation.

Arrangements were with the Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
