Margaret L. Barrett
Margaret L. Barrett, age 94, of Kadoka, formerly of Belvidere, died Thursday morning, October 11, 2007, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 15, at the Belvidere Community Church with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Eulogy was given by Ben Handcock. Music was provided by Syd Iwan, organist. Ushers were Brett and Kade Bonenberger. Pallbearers were Barbara Suess, Pat Barrett, Patsy Handcock, Keith Bonenberger, Raymond Hicks, Bonnie Riggins, Carolyn McGrath and Pam Cokeley.
Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery.
Margaret L. Briggs was born August 3, 1913, in Durango, CO, the daughter of Floyd and Faye (Scott) Briggs. As a child she moved with her parents to Kadoka. She grew up and graduated from Kadoka High School.
Margaret was united in marriage to John F. Barrett on June 22, 1933, in Belvidere. They worked as ranch hands in Pennington, Haakon, and Jackson counties. In 1944, they purchased and operated a ranch northwest of Belvidere, which they continued to operate until 1976, when they sold part of the ranch but continued to live there. They spent their winter months in Mesa, AZ, and summers at the ranch. In 1989, Margaret and John moved into the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka. After John's death on December 19, 1991, she moved to the Kadoka Nursing Home, where she has since resided.
Survivors include her daughter, Marcia Osborn and her husband, Lewis, of Granbury, TX; two granddaughters, Kimberly Wolk and her husband, Dana, of Sammamish, WA, and Kelly O'Brien of Rapid City; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Maggie Wolk, and Kristin and Karli O'Brien; her sister, Joyce Hicks of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, John, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Lyle Barrett in infancy; her parents; and two brothers, Clifford and Buford Briggs.
A memorial is established to the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka.
