Luella Pauline Griesel

Luella Pauline Griesel, age 83, of Rapid City, formerly of Philip, died July 24, 2011, at the Golden Living Center Bella Vista in Rapid City.

Luella Pauline Griesel was born August 18, 1927, in Philip, the third of seven children born to Paul Kephart and Miriam Isabel (Riddell) Griesel. Pauline grew up in the Philip area and graduated from Philip High School in 1947.

After graduation, Pauline worked as a secretary at the Kennedy Brothers Implement Company in Philip. She moved to Pierre where she worked as a secretary at the state house. She then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she lived and worked for 15 years. Pauline returned to Rapid City and was employed by Prairie States Insurance until her retirement.

Pauline was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City where her passion for flowers could often be seen displayed around the church. During a brief return in 2007 to Philip, she attended First Lutheran Church in Philip. She later returned to Rapid City where she spent the remaining years of her life.

Grateful for having shared her life include two sisters, Rosemary Greeno and her husband, Rich, of Sioux Falls and Etta Maude Erdmann of Philip; two brothers, Ben Griesel of Martinez, Ga., and Jack Griesel and his wife, Arlyce, of Philip; many nieces and nephews, but she was especially close with her nieces, Karen Bauman and Marie Nuttle, of Rapid City, and her nephews, Larry Niederworder of Philip and Gary Niederworder of Rapid City.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mavis Niederworder and Edith Herber.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the First Lutheran Church in Philip, with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officating.

Interment will be at a later date at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Rapid City.
