Lola M. Smith

Lola M. Smith, age 85, of Kadoka, formerly of Sioux Falls, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 8, at 1:00 p.m at the Kadoka Cemetery with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Lola M. Smith was born January 24, 1919, in Kadoka, SD, the daughter of Al and Clara (Rooks) Smith. She grew up on a ranch east of Long Valley in the Wanamaker area. She received her elementary education in that area prior to graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Springfield, SD. She received her nurses training at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1939.

She worked as a Registered Nurse in various hospitals throughout the United States. In 1954, she became an anesthetist from Sacred Heart School of Anesthesiology in Yankton. She then worked for 25 years for McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, prior to retiring in 1984. After retirement, she continued to make her home in Sioux Falls.

Lola was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Cathedral of Sioux Falls and the American Association of Nurses and Anesthetist.

Grateful for having shared her life are three nephews Alvin Goodman of Long Valley, Daniel Smith of Alvarado, TX, and Wayne Smith of Texas City, TX; one niece, Virginia Coller and her husband, Delbert, of Long Valley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Smith; one sister, Thelma Pourier; and one nephew, Richard Goodman.

Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka is in charge of arrangements.
