Lady Scotties stop Stanley County

The Philip Lady Scotties basketball team hosted the Stanley County Buffaloes, Thursday, December 16.

The Scotties began the game slowly, earning only five points to the Buffalo's 12 points. At the 3:30 mark of the second quarter, Philip had climbed to 15 and Stanley County had climbed to 21. Philip scored and held their opponents back, so that the score was 21-22 with less than a minute remaining in the half. The Buffaloes gained another two before the buzzer.

The clock showed 5:30 into the third quarter when Philip took the lead, 29-28. Four unanswered baskets and a free throw later, Philip had forced the score to 38-28. Stanley County sank one, but Philip kept at its barrage. The quarter ended 45-30.

The Buffaloe's attempted come back more than doubled the Philip score in the final quarter. Just over a minute of play remained when a time out was called. The score stood at 52-45. Stanley County seemed to not be able to miss and closed the gap to 53-51 with 10 second left. Two free throw misses by Stanley County stopped a tied score and determined the game. Philip gained possession of the ball and sank a two-pointer to clinch the 55-52 win.
