Lady Scotties outplay Edgemont 53-46

Mine! ... Philip’s Carissa Doolittle gets the rebound from teammate Mariah Evans’ shot. The Lady Scotties’ varsity team defeated the Edgemont Moguls 53-46 on January 2. The girls' junior varsity also won, 27-17.

Philip hosted the Edgemont Moguls girls' basketball team on Friday, January 2. The win of 53-46 went to the Lady Scotties after they held on to the lead for the entire second half. Four Philip girls finished with double digit scores and the team almost doubled their opponents in rebounding.

The first two minutes of the games remained scoreless. Sinking the first basket, Edgemont took the lead and held it the rest of the first quarter. With the score at 7-10, the last two and a half minutes of that quarter were also scoreless.

Back and forth action made the rest of the first half the most exciting part of the game. Half-time came with Philip ahead 27-22. The third quarter saw the Lady Scotties stretch their lead by another five points, ending with the scoreboard reading 42-32.

The last quarter saw Edgemont force its way to within three points of Philip with only 45 seconds to go. Two more baskets from the offense and zeroing out their opponents in defense, the Lady Scotties walked away with a six point lead and the win.

The junior varsity team also had a tough go, at least until the final quarter, when they dominated the play to win 27-17.

The next game for the Lady Scotties will start at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, in Philip against the New Underwood Tigers. Next, they will play at Dupree against the Tigers on Saturday, January 10. The following game will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, at Onida versus Sully Buttes.
