The Philip Lady Scotties faced off against long-time rivals the Kadoka Kougars in the second game of district tournament.

The evening before was a drain on energy and emotion, with an overtime win against the New Underwood Tigers. The Scotties still came out strong in the second game and scored the first four points. They also almost doubled the Kougars’ score at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a catch-up time for Kadoka. Philip lost the lead with only 30 seconds before halftime, but a foul allowed the Scotties to gain one more point to tie the score.

Second half play was a trading of baskets until the score was 36-36. The Scotties began holding a slight lead and increased it to eight points at the end of the third quarter.

The advantage began slipping from the Scotties until Kadoka again tied at 51-51 with only 2:23 remaining. Yet again, it was tied 53-53 at the 1:49 mark. Foul-generated points offset the scores and flip-flopped the lead until the scoreboard showed 56-56 with only five seconds left. Freethrows made by Kadoka secured their win with a final score of 59-56.
