Lady Scotties defeat Kadoka Kougars 3-1 in volleyball action

The Philip High School Scotties volleyball team traveled to Kadoka, Thursday, September 1, for their first match of the 2011 season. They defeated the Kadoka Area Kougars 3-1.

The Lady Scotties varsity team won their match with scores of 25-13, 25-15, 17-25 and 25-23. According to coach Kim Bouman, the team is a young one, with 14 freshmen players out of a total of 24. The varsity rotation is seeing some shifting, while the junior varsity and "C" teams will be experimenting with the rotations to improve any weaknesses and hone the strengths of the players and the teams as a whole.

Serving: Philip - 81 of 91 (17 aces). Leaders: Josie Guptill - 21 of 21 (3 aces), Misty Johnson - 12 of 14 (5 aces), Sayde Slovek - 12 of 13 (3 aces).

Hitting: Philip - 96 of 113 (28 kills). Leaders: Slovek - 35 of 37 (11 kills), Dekker - 11 of 16 (5 kills), Sam Johnson - 13 of 14 (3 kills).

Blocking: Philip - 4 doubles and 2 solos. Leaders: Guptill - 3 assists and 1 solo, Johnson - 2 assists, Slovek - 1 assist and 1 solo.

Digging: Philip - 55 of 79. Leaders: Slovek - 18 of 20, Wells - 13 of 18, Guptill - 7 of 11.

The junior varsity match ended 0-2, with game scores of 18-25 and 18-25.

The "C" team match also ended in only two games, with Philip losing 0-2. The game scores were 19-25 and 18-25.

Philip's following meet will be hosting a triangular with the Lyman Raiders and the Stanley County Lady Buffaloes, Thursday, September 8, starting at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Scotties will hold their Philip Tournament, Saturday, September 10, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
