Lady Scotties are District 13B Champions

The Philip Lady Scotties defeated the Jones County Coyotes in the second round of District 13B Tournament play. The Tuesday, November 4 match ended 3-0, with game scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-11.

The first round of play was between the fourth seeded Kadoka Area Kougars and Crazy Horse ended with a 3-0 win for Kadoka Area. The other teams received a bye for the first round. After a 20 minute rest, the Kougars had to face the top seeded White River Tigers. Kadoka Area did offer a challenge to White River with scores of 25-18, 25-10 and a hard game of 32-30. Second seeded Philip went against third seeded Jones County.

Hitting: Philip - 89 of 96. Leaders: Sierra Hook - 31 of 35 (19 kills), Pinney - 17 of 17 (10 kills), Mann - 28 of 29 (8 kills).

Blocking: Philip - 7 kills. Leaders: Hook - 3 solos and 2 doubles, Mann - 2 solos and 2 doubles.

Digging: Philip - 52 of 69. Leaders: O'Connell - 17 of 19, Mann - 9 of 9, Holman - 11 of 15.

The district volleyball championship game was held in Murdo on Saturday, November 8. The number two seeded Philip Lady Scotties (28-3) challenged the number one seeded White River Tigers (30-2). In their first 2008 regular season game, Philip had lost 2-3 to White River.

Philip won the district match 3-1, with game scores of 25-11, 17-25, 25-22 an 25-18. The Scotties go into regional play with a season record of 29-3.

The Regional 7B Volleyball Tournament was on Tuesday, November 11, in Philip. The State "B" Volleyball Tournament will be in Rapid City this year on Thursday through Saturday, November 20 through 22.
