The 38th annual South Dakota High School Honor Choir, held in Vermillion at the University of South Dakota, performed its closing concert July 29, 2011.

Kianna Knutson, an alto vocalist from Philip High School, was a part of the South Dakota Honor Choir. Knutson had to compete against other students from across the state to earn the chance to participate in the Honors Choir. Barb Bowen, music instructor for the Philip schools and an alumni of the South Dakota Honor Choir, helped Knutson to prepare for the audition and for the week of group practice.

Knutson said, "It was a lot of fun working with so many great voices, and our director was phenomenal. It is an unforgettable experience for anyone who is considering trying out next year."

The choir is an experience that draws 150 auditioned high school students together for a week of intensive singing at a choral camp under the direction of a respected choral conductor. This year's guest conductor was Dr. Brad Holmes, of Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois.

The concert was open to the public. This year's repetoire included "Himne," "Psalm 96," "Otche Nash," "Coelos Ascendit," "Lift Your Voice With Joy and Thanksgiving," "There is No Rose," "Exultate Justi," "I Am In Need Of Music," "Heartland" and "Walk Together Children."
