Jewel Bearheels, age 47 of Kadoka, S.D., died Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Jewel Y. Bearheels was born August 9, 1964, in Pine Ridge, the daughter of Leland and Iris (Romero) Bearheels. She grew up in the Kadoka area, where she attended school through the 12th grade. She received her associate degree in business from Oglala Lakota College in Kyle.
Jewel lived in Kadoka all her life and worked as a cook in various restaurants in Kadoka.
Jewel and her longtime companion, Cliff Stone, had a son, Zachary.
Because of health reasons she retired in 2010, but continued to love and care for her son, her parents, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her special friend, Cliff Stone of Kadoka; their son, Zachary Stone of Kadoka; her parents, Leland and Iris Bearheels of Kadoka; four brothers, Jerome “Lee” Bearheels of Aberdeen, Ryan Bearheels of Kadoka, Harold Bearheels of Aberdeen and Sheldon Bearheels of Sioux Falls; four sisters, Robin Bearheels of Seattle, Wash., Christle Bearheels of Albuquerque, N.M.; DeAnn Bearheels of Rapid City and Laurel Bearheels of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jewel was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Stacy and Gladys Bearheels; maternal grandparents, Nancy and Vetal Romero; her brother, N. Craig Bearheels; a niece, Krisene Bearheels; and a cousin, JoAnn Romero.
Services were held Sunday, February 19, at Kadoka Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Music was provided by Ruth McCubbin, pianist, and Andrew Conseen Duff, vocalist.
Ushers were Nicholas Young and Lane Herbaugh. Pallbearers were Cody Young, Stanley “Bubba” Young, Alan, Scott, Cordal and Torian Romero.
Interment was at the Kadoka Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Arrangements were with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka.
