JC-M loses tough one to Kimball
The Jones County/Midland Rebels lost to the Kimball Kiotes at Murdo with a 37-8 score.
The Kiotes leaped ahead in the first quarter. With 8:43 still on the clock, a 23 yard run by Kyle Pickner gained the first touchdown. Kyle McGregor ran in the extra points. Kimball kept pushing. With 17 seconds left, Logan Schmidt passed 20 yards to Derek Ashley for another touchdown. McGregor repeated his earlier run. The score was 16-0.
The second quarter also started quickly, then stalled. At 6:48, McGregor crashed through with a 1-yard run to score. This time Pickner ran it in for two.
After halftime, a 28 yard pass from Schmidt to Ashley scored, with Daniel Aguirre kicking for the extra point. At 3:37, McGregor ran 38 yards for yet another touchdown. The kick this time failed. The score was 37-0.
The Jones County/ Midland Rebels pushed forward in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 5 yard run by Anthony Kinsley to score. The Rebels also ran, using Kinsley, to gain the two extra points. Rebel defense held the Kiotes to a zero score for the quarter. The final score was 37-8.
Despite their success, the Kiotes paid for 6 penalties with 55 yards. The Rebels gave up only 10 yards because of 2 penalties.
Statistics were against the Rebels; 35 rushes resulted in only 113 yards, while 2 connected passes out of 13 tries gained only 14 yards. The Kiotes ran 41 times to go 253 yards, and threw successfully 5 out of 10 times to gain 99 yards. Twelve first downs were scratched out by the Rebels, while the Kiotes earned 21.
