James E. Loobey
James E. Loobey, 78, of Payette, Idaho passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, at his home in Payette.
Services were held Friday, April 1, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 4, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg, PA.
James was born August 14, 1926 on the family ranch near Hilland, SD, to Lawrence J. and Thelma T. (Helgeson) Loobey.
He attended grades one through four at Riverview and grades five through eight at West Fork #93 in Haakon County. As a youngster he was baptized as a Presbyterian at Hardingrove School House located north of Philip, SD. He left home at the age of 14 years to ride in the rodeo circuit. He worked as a ranch hand and rode in the rodeos, returning home on occasion until joining the Army on December 17, 1946.
He married Ellen La Rue on December 3, 1949. After his separation from the Army on December 17, 1949, he held various truck driving jobs until he was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Harrisburg, PA, remaining there until his retirement.
Several years after his wife, Ellen, passed away he married his childhood sweetheart, Lillian Main, on August 14, 1990.
He enjoyed hunting, raising and training bird dogs, fishing, gardening and traveling.
James is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Payette; four sons, James L. Loobey of Payette, John (Flo) Loobey of Bristol, TN, Gene (Betty Jo) Loobey of Middletown, PA, and Jody (Jeanie) Loobey of Harrisburg, PA; two brothers, Lawrence (Cleo) Loobey of Sturgis, SD, and Jack (Dene) Loobey of Gillette, WY; one sister, Alice (Al) Brandon of Ohio; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ellen; and a brother, Donald.
