Hook named Miss Volleyball by coaches

The South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association released its Miss Volleyball selections in all three classes. The top players are Sierra Hook of Philip in Class B, Allison Vos of Harrisburg in Class A and Stephanie Paluch of Pierre in Class AA.

Philip won the 2008 State B title, and Harrisburg and Pierre finished second in their classes.

Hook, a six-foot middle hitter for the the state champion Philip Scotties, led her team in kill efficiency and kills per game. She averaged 12.4 kills per match and 4.3 per game. She also had 34 ace serves, 60 blocks and 95 digs.

Hook dominated at the net for the Scotties. She averaged 12.4 kills, 2.1 blocks and 3.4 digs per match in leading the Scotties to their first Class B state championship. Philip won the Class A state championship in 1996.

Five seniors and one freshman were named to the South Dakota Class B All-State Volleyball Team by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association. Five of the six players represent teams that made it to the Class B state tournament. Hook for Philip, Kelsey Rozell, a middle hitter for Warner, Kelsey Backus, a middle hitter from Chester Area, Jada Blasius, an outside hitter from Kimball and Northwestern Area outside hitters Shari Fischbach and Jussy Tuscherer, a freshman, were the first team selections.

Taylor Holman, Philip, Katrina Kjerstad, Wall, Katelin Anderson, Chester, Shelby Tollefson, Hitchcock-Tulare, Elizabeth Lamb, Sully Buttes and Trish Price, Faulkton, made the honorable mention team.
