High School golf season off to windy start at Philip Invitational

At the Philip Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday, April 7, the more experienced players were able to eventually adapt to the windy conditions that marked the golf season’s opener.

Seven schools were represented in the boys’ division. Philip High School filled two teams. Team A took second place behind Wall. Team B took fifth place behind Lyman and Lemmon. Newell, Bennett County and Bison golfers also competed.

Individually, Philip’s Jordan Smith took fifth place with a score of 87. Allen Hauk earned seventh place with a 91. Devon Ehlers came in 15th with a 103. Kolby Longbrake took 21st with a 107. Other Philip players were Andrew Breck, Caleb Clements, Richie Baye, Colten Nickelson and Theo Fitch.

In the girls’ division, five schools were represented. Bison took first place as a team and Wall took second. The other schools represented in the tournament were Philip, Bennett County and Newell.

Individually, Philip’s Tara Ravellette earned a spot in the top ten with a ninth place and a score of 109. Abby Fitzgerald was the other Philip girl golfer at this tournament.

The next golf tournament for the Philip Scotties was the Meadowbrook Invitational in Rapid City on Tuesday, April 11. Following that, the next scheduled tournament will be another Philip Invitational beginning at 9:30 on Friday, April 21.
