Haakon School District finishes up calendar year
The last meeting of the 2005 calendar year for the School Board for Haakon School District 27-1 Board was short and simply closed up official paperwork.
A routine audit scheduled for this coming spring will include last school year as well as this school year. The board scrutinized and approved this last months’ financial report.
Career lane changes for several staff members were noted and corrected for the official record. Volunteer coaches for basketball and wrestling were officially approved for legality sake. A part-time employee will be helping with the building maintenance work over Christmas break.
Discussion was initiated on if and when the administration and teachers should allow students to correct other students’ papers. Though such practices have been ruled as legal, some schools do not do so, while other schools leave the decision to individual teacher discretion.
Tuesday and Wednesday, December 20-21, were semester tests. After Christmas break there will be one week of the semester remaining, which ends on January 6.
Student registration for the 2006-07 school year will begin the latter part of this January. The goal is to have everyone registered by the end of February.
On January 26 at 5:00 p.m. there will be a meeting for eighth graders and their parents concerning the new three-tiered graduation requirements that will start with next year’s freshmen.
A new track record board has been ordered with money donated by the Janet Waara family.
The board meeting ended with a closed executive session. After the session, no action was taken.
The next scheduled School Board meeting is for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16.
