Convening at 5:00 p.m. due to the high school Christmas concert at 6:30, the Haakon School District Board of Education wrapped up its 2006 business.
The board approved the list of volunteer coaches for the winter sports. Anyone working with students, even on a volunteer basis, must be approved by the board and put on public record.
For boys' and girls' basketball, individuals officially offering help to the coaches and players will be Sarah Albrecht, Lexie Albrecht, Tiana Fitch, Linette Donnelly, Erin Fitzgerald, Kim Bouman, Jenna Finn, Randy Holman, Jenny Burns, Amber Rush, Nick Heeb, Darin Naescher, Gregg Naescher, Dana Kerns, Travis DeJong and Kevin Pinney.
For wrestling, those officially helping the coaches and wrestlers will be Michael Peterson, Brad Heltzel, Bo Slovek, Brock Slovek, Chad Ramsey, Allan Rislov, JR Snyder, Kent Buchholz, Alex Brech, Kurt Flesner, Alex Radway and Cain Radway.
The Deep Creek teacherage has been put up for bids. The sale does not include the fuel tank, and the structure must be moved off of the property by September 1, 2007.
Secondary Principal Jeff Rieckman reported that semester tests were to be held Wednesday and Thursday, December 20 and 21. Last year the current seniors came through with achieving a specific level of expertise on the STEP tests, so they do not have to have semester tests this year. Some teachers, though, are giving chapter tests during this time.
Rieckman and Guidance Counselor Pam DeJong are targeting the first part of February to have all the returning students pre-registered for next school year.
According to Superintendent Keven Morehart, the North Central Accreditation committee has had two meeting already. Debra Snook, 7th through 12th grade math and physics instructor, is chairman of the committee. The next meeting will be January 3rd, and monthly or more frequent meetings will continue until the ongoing accreditation requirements are completed.
"That is the thing about NCA, everybody is doing it, but we have to get it on paper and verify it," said Morehart.
Morehart also reported that personnel evaluations are almost complete.
The next scheduled meeting for the Haakon School District 27-1 Board of Education will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2007, in Room A-1 of the Philip High School.
