Grace D. Wasser
Grace D. Wasser, age 94 of Hartford, South Dakota, died May 20, 2008, at the Leisure Living Assisted Living in Hartford, South Dakota.
Grace D. Dooley was born October 17, 1913, in Ramona, South Dakota, the daughter of David and Theresa (Schuster) Dooley. She grew up in the Ramona area and graduated from Ramona High School in 1931. She obtained her teaching certificate from Eastern State Normal School at Madison. She then taught at rural schools in the Ramona area for two years. In 1936 she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a dental assistant for five years for Dr. H.J. Carleton.
Grace was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Wasser on May 29, 1942, at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. From 1942 until 1945, she worked as a dental assistant at the Sioux Falls Air Base while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.
They made their home in Sioux Falls until 1948 when they moved to Salem, South Dakota. Later they moved to a farm near Montrose, South Dakota, which they operated until 1970 when they moved into Hartford.
Her husband Lloyd preceded her in death on December 1, 1978. Gracie continued to make her home in Hartford until 2007 when she moved into the Leisure Living Assisted Living Center in Hartford, where she has since resided.
Music was a big part of Gracie's life, whether it was listening or playing the piano and organ, she always had music.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Dan Wasser and his wife, LaVonne, of Decorah, Iowa; her three daughters, Gayle Rush and her husband, Jack, of Philip, South Dakota, Patricia Wasser of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Peggy Scott and her husband, Dean, of Adel, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Tessie Kruck of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Lloyd, Grace was preceded in death by her parents; one brother David Dooley; six sisters Marie Gantz, Frances Dooley, Nan Whitlock, Evelyn Phillips, Genevieve Nighbert, and Kathleen Allen.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford with Father David Desmond as celebrant and Father Gregory Tschakert as con-celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls.
In lieu of flowers a memorial is established to the St. George Catholic Church Building Fund in Hartford.
