Golden West 59th annual meeting highlights to include meal, prizes, voting and entertainment

Golden West Telecommunications Cooperative members will be able to vote in three board member contests at the cooperative's 59th annual meeting Saturday, September 24, in Wall.

All members who attend will receive a free noon meal, a chance to win a $500 grand prize and a registration gift. In addition, the Shrine of Democracy Chorus of Rapid City will entertain attendees with their barbershop harmony.

This year, three of Golden West's 15 board seats are up for election. One incumbent is running unopposed, while one incumbent faces a challenger and two new-comers compete for an open seat. Arnie Hill and Cheryl Valburg run in District III for a four-year term. The winner will replace Robert Fronek, who is not seeking re-election. Kenneth (Buddy) Bolzer runs unopposed to represent District IV for a four-year term. Challenger Ansel Wooden Knife runs against incumbent Paul Iron Cloud, Sr. to represent District VI for a four-year term.

Co-op members may vote in all of the board elections regardless of their district of residence.

For the second year, co-op members will receive their capital credit return checks in the mail, about a week before the annual meeting, rather than picking the checks up at the meeting.

"Due to the cooperative's strong performance, Golden West's Board of Directors approved the return of $3,686,990 in capital credit checks to its members this year," said Denny Law, general manager/ CEO. This capital credit retirement consists of the remaining 1997 allocations, $1,000,000 for allocations generated in 2010, and an additional $1,000,000 for allocations generated between 1998 and 2009.

The annual meeting schedule begins with registration at 10:30 a.m., with the official business meeting following at 1:00 p.m.

10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Registration at Wall Community Center. Members will receive a gift and a meal ticket.

11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. - Free lunch of ham or hot beef at local restaurants.

1:00 p.m. - Start of official business meeting, to include election of directors and reports by Law and Board President Rod Renner. During ballot-counting, the Shrine of Democracy Chorus will provide entertainment.
