Father's Day golf tournament

Lake Waggoner Golf Course hosted its annual Father's Day Stroke Play golf tournament on Father's Day Sunday July 15.

Fifteen golfers competed in the event; Corky Thorson, Ray Smith, Glenn Parsons, Pat Stout, Bob Thorson, Landon Peterson, Dick Stolley, Dean Fitzgerald, Brad Haynes, Colt Terkildsen, Luke Weber, DJ Rush, Tristan Rush, Dak Carley and Bill McDaniel.

It was an 18-hole tournament and was flighted by the toss of a coin. "There were some very respectable scores turned in," said Glenn Parsons, "and there were some scores that were less than stellar. All in all everyone who participated enjoyed the event."

In past years it has been a two day tournament that has drawn some of the best golfers in Philip and the surrounding area. This year it was great to see a wide variety of skill levels attend. It made for a relaxed atmosphere and good experience for people who don't play a lot of tournaments.

Brad Haynes won the championship flight with an even par score of 72 and Dak Carley took second with a 1 over par 73. Great scores! In the first flight DJ Rush and Ray Smith split first with scores of 85 each.

With the golf course in such lush condition, players who didn't keep the ball in the fairway found themselves hacking out of US Open rough and this accounted for the wide range of scores which varied from 72 to 131.

Pin prizes were given by Ravellette Publications Inc, First National Bank in Philip, Coyles SuperValu, Ingram Hardware, Jones Saddlery and Lake Waggoner Golf Course.
