Fatal accident near Midland

At approximatesly 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, there was a two vehicle crash nine miles west of Midland.

Joyce Jarman, age 74, Midland, was fatally injured.

A 2005 Buick LeSabre, driven by Jarman, entered US Highway 14 near mile marker 159 from a private driveway. It was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound 2000 Chrysler Voyager van, driven by Ryan Hennen, age 36, St. Paul, MN. Hennen attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. Both vehicles came to a rest in the road ditch.

Jarman was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Emily Hennen, age 39, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the van, received a life threatening injury. She was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Grady Hennen, age 5, and Robert Hennen, age 2, received no serious injuries. All occupants in the van were wearing seat belts.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash. The Haakon County Sheriff's Office, Philip Police Department, and Philip and Midland ambulances assisted.

The incident is still under investigation.
