Fall 2009 second year and beyond scholarships

Applications for Fall 2009 second year and beyond scholarships are due each July 15. Applications are available at Guidance Councilor Pamela DeJong's office at the Philip High School or at the website www.philip.k12.sd.us, click on the guidance link.

Anna K. Davis Memorial - awarded to a Philip High School graduate with a 2.5 grade point average or above and focused on academics in agriculture, nursing, teaching, business or hospital and attending a South Dakota school - $200 to Marla Kelly.

Braddock-Durnill Trust Scholarship - awarded to a PHS grad attending an accredited South Dakota college or vocational school. Following graduation, applicant must provide proof of full time continuous post-secondary education (earn 12+ credits per semester), renewable for up to four years - $1987.50 to each Ashley Berry, Skye Brucklacher, Zane Fees, Heather Finn, Sarah Foland, Marla Kelly, Megan Mortellaro, Nathan O'Dea, Jordan Smith and Michael Westerberg.

Cecile Marie Hansen Memorial - awarded to nursing students - $500 each fall to each Berry, Edna Knutson, Wendy Cook-Madsen, Marla Kelly, Kimberly Kanable, Christine Coyle - $500 each spring to Berry, Knutson, Cook-Madsen, Kelly.

Class of 2000 - awarded to a PHS grad who has completed at least one year of post-secondary education at a South Dakota state supported vo-tech or college - $175 to Kelly.

George and Alice Hendrickson - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year, second semester and an education major - $500 to Mortellaro.

Haakon Education Association - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year, second semester and an education major - $250 to Mortellaro and Finn.

Haakon County Crooners - awarded to a PHS grad earning a major or minor in music - $200 to Finn.

Jamie Gittings Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year - $300 to Fees.

Katherine Stephenson Scholarship - awarded to a PHS grad pursuing a degree in the medical or nutrition field - $250 to Kelly.

Kawi Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad or resident of Haakon County, after successful completion of one year and upon enrollment and admission to a second year of postsecondary education - $300 each to O'Dea, Finn, Mortellaro.

Melvin and Paul Sandbo Memorial - awarded to a grad of any Haakon County School or resident of Haakon County after completing one year of post-secondary education. Consideration is given to scholarship, leadership, character traits and financial need - $400 each to Cassie Bennett and Fees.

Mary Lou Wintrode Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad pursuing nursing - $250 to Berry.

Philip High School Alumni Scholarship - awarded to a PHS grad - $150 each to Bennett and Kelly.

Vivian Hansen Scholarship - awarded to a PHS grad of at least second year with preference given to those studying education or special education - $1,000 to Sarah Albrecht.

The following scholarships will be awarded later this fall: Buls Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year, second semester of any major.

Lillian Cook Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year and an education major.

Paulson Memorial - awarded to a PHS grad of at least a second year and an education major.
