Esther L. Letellier

Esther L. Letellier, age 92, of Norris, died Friday morning, February 2, 2007, at the Bennett County Nursing Home in Martin.

Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. CST, Thursday, February 8, at the Norris Bible Church in Norris, with Rev. Don Letellier officiating.

Music will be provided by pianists LuAnne Beckwith and Sue Larson with congregational hymns and special music by Esther's grandchildren.

Ushers are Paul Beckwith and Jason Burma. Pallbearers are Marty Larson, Brent Peterson, Steve Oliver, Kurt Letellier, Jeff Hall, Roby Bass, Brian and Daniel White, Casey Letellier, Eric Schlabach, Josh Zollinger and Gabe Van Dusseldorp.

Interment will be in the Norris Cemetery. Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka is in charge of the arrangements.

Esther Marousek was born December 7, 1914, on the Marousek Homestead in Meade County near Boneita Springs, SD, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Maresh) Marousek. She grew up in that area and graduated from Rapid City High School. She then attended Spearfish Normal and taught rural school for two years. Later, she completed her degree at Sioux Falls College and then attended Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Religious Education. She taught one year at Kaufman School.

Esther was united in marriage to Loyd Letellier on August 24, 1940, in Rapid City. They owned and operated the LEL Hereford Ranch near Norris. After their six children were raised, she returned to teaching in the Norris school in 1965 to 1974.

Esther was a member of the Norris Bible Church. She was honored for her 60 years in Extension Club and also was the Norris News correspondent for 38 years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, writing, traveling and playing Scrabble.

She was a member of Women's Christian Temperance Union since 1951 and served as a State officer including President for many years.

Her husband preceded her in death on September 17, 1988. She continued to make her home in Norris until June of 2004 when she moved into the Bennett County Health Care Center.

Grateful for having shared her life include four sons, James Letellier and his wife, Marjorie, of Norris, Don Letellier and his wife, Anna May, of Wood Lake, NE, Glen Letellier and his wife, Linda, of Mt. Lake, MN, and Roy Letellier and his wife, Kathie, of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Dorothy Peterson and her husband, Fred, of Minnetonka, MN, and Alice White and her husband, Gary, of Evart, MI; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Melvin Marousek of Belle Fourche, and Dr. Gerald Marousek of Moscow, ID; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Loyd, Esther was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alan; two sisters, Ruth Fisher and Gladys Couture; and an infant granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established.
