Edna L. Buls

Edna L. Buls, age 97, of Philip, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Philip Nursing Home.

Services were held Saturday, March 12, at the First Lutheran Church in Philip, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Music was provided by JoAnne Stilwell, organist, and Elvera Moos, vocalist. Ushers were Dwight and Paul Slovek, Bob and Bill Thoson, Rod and John Knutson.

Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery. Rush Funeral Home of Philip was in charge of the arrangements.

Edna L. Mundt was born February 9, 1908, on her parents’ farm near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of William F. Mundt, Sr. and Ida M. (Stofferahn) Mundt.

As an infant the family moved to a farm near Humboldt, SD. She grew up there and received her education in that community.

As a young lady, she worked at the Manchester Cookie Company in Sioux Falls.

Edna was united in marriage to Clarence E. Buls on August 3, 1927 in Canton, SD.

In December 1928, they moved to the Philip area and in 1939 they purchased the Fordyce Sammons Ranch, which they operated until retiring in the spring of 1978. They continued to make their home on the ranch. After her husband's death on August 1, 1986, Edna continued to live on the ranch until 1991 when she moved into the Philip Nursing Home, where she has since resided.

Edna was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Philip, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, Grindstone Womens Club, Scattered Few Club, Bad River Senior Citizens, and served on the Hans P. Peterson Hospital Auxiliary Board.

Grateful for having shared her life include her son, Bill Buls and his wife, Shirley, of Philip; a daughter, Bonnie Buls of Philip; four grandchildren, Becky Richmond, Barbra Buls, William Buls, Jr. and Wyatt Buls; two step-grandchildren, Karen Nelson and Bret Sether; four great-grandchildren, Alacia Altemose, Maxwell Buls, William Buls, Jr. and Sabrina Buls; seven step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; a sister, Helen Newburg of Inwood, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Clarence, Edna was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and 10 sisters.
