Donna E. Hansen
Donna E. Hansen, age 71, of Philip, South Dakota, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.
Donna E. Waldron was born November 22, 1939, in Presho, South Dakota, the daughter of Jess and Mabel (Harmon) Waldron. She grew up in Presho before the family moved to the White Thunder Ranch on the Cheyenne River in 1949. Donna attended rural school in that area before attending Philip High School, graduating in 1957.
Donna was united in marriage to Jack Hansen on May 24, 1957, in Philip. They made their home in Philip, where Donna and Jack raised their three children. Donna did all the accounting for Jack's various businesses throughout the years. She was a huge Randy Travis fan, attending several of his concerts. She also collected Coca-Cola memorabilia, and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family.
Jack and Donna enjoyed attending their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's sports and other school activities. Jack and Donna traveled extensively throughout the country for the last 35 years. Since 2002, Jack and Donna spent the winter months in Yuma, Arizona. Donna was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all her family.
Survivors include her husband Jack of Philip; three children Marty Hansen and his wife Debbie of Philip, Jesse Hansen and his wife Sheryl of Philip, and Vicki Schardin and her husband Brad of Marion, South Dakota; nine grandchildren Brandi (Matt) Hirsch, Keri (Jesse) Schiferl, Halli (Robbie) Clausen, Brady (Julie) Hansen, Alyssa DeJong, Micah Hansen, Andrea (Alan) Flyger, and Brock and Cara Schardin; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Imogene Rotert of Whitewood; her mother-in-law Marie Hansen of Philip; a sister-in-law Yvonne Ehlers of Presho; a beloved great-aunt Rosie Lejeune of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Chud, Bill, Port and Melvin; and five sisters Mae, Doreen, Alice, Lucille, and Myrtle.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the hall on Monday.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
A memorial has been established.
