District 27 Rep. Mark DeVries steps down from ballot, Kenny Fox steps up
At a Jackson County Republican Party meeting held on August 11, District 27 Representative Mark DeVries announced his withdrawal from the ballot in the upcoming election in November.
DeVries will serve the remainder of his term, which will expire on December 31, 2008.
"I would like to thank my constitutes in District 27 for the opportunity to serve them the last two years in Pierre," DeVries said. "The decision to withdraw my name was based on my desire to spend more time with my family, and be more involved in the boys' activities and sports."
Central committee members for the Republican Party appointed Kenny Fox to fill the vacancy created by the withdrawal of DeVries. Fox will join Dawn Rasmussen as the two Republican candidates for State House in District 27.
Fox owns and operates a cow/calf operation near Belvidere on the Big White River. He has served on the Board of Directors of the SD Stockgrowers Association since June of 2000 and currently is the vice-president. He is also chairman of the Animal ID Committee for R-CALF United Stockgrowers of America.
Fox and Roxie, his wife of 30 years, are both third generation cattle ranchers. They have three sons; Jesse, Wade and Shawn.
