David L. Moodie

David L. Moodie, 73, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Deaconess Hospital in Billings due to injuries sustained from an accidental fall the previous day.

David was born March 13, 1931 in Hewitt, Minnesota to Alexander and Agnes (Erickson) Moodie. He graduated from Herman High School and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954.

On September 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly Brunkow in Herman, Minnesota. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Dave’s father, Alex, founded Moodie Implement in 1932 in the Central Minnesota town of Hewitt. In 1945, he moved his family to the town of Herman in West Central Minnesota. Throughout Dave’s childhood, he worked with his father joining him full-time after his service in the military. In 1966, Dave and Alex bought Martin Farm Supply in Lewistown, Montana. His son, Jim, joined the family business in 1982. In the mid 1980s, Dave and Bev moved to Pierre, South Dakota, to open Moodie Implement, Inc. with their son, Rob. In 1998, Rob and Dave purchased the John Deere dealership in Philip, South Dakota. In 1999, he assisted Jim with the purchase of the John Deere dealership in Havre, Montana.

In January of 2004, Dave and Bev returned to Lewistown to live.

Dave was a member of the United Methodist Church holding many positions through the years including chairman of the building committee; was a former board member of the First National Bank; past chairman of the Lewistown School Board; a member of the Kiwanis, Elks, and a volunteer firefighter in Herman, MN.

He enjoyed hunting, flying, walking and family time spent together.

He will be dearly missed by his loving family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Lewistown, MT; two daughters, Darla (Don) Black of Great Falls, MT, Susan (Dean) Williams of Puyallup, WA; two sons, James (Cindy) Moodie of Lewistown, MT, and Robert (Audrey) Moodie of Pierre, SD; a brother, Tom Moodie of Newport News, VA; brother-in-law, Don (Laura) Brunkow of Sheridan, WY; 14 grandchildren: Devney Black (finance´, Bill Perry), Daniel Black, Brian Williams, Alex Williams, Colin Williams, Phillip Moodie, Scott Moodie, Steven Moodie, Kaitlyn Moodie, Kyle Moodie, Kalen Moodie, Tyler Moodie, Travis Moodie, Tyson Moodie; a nephew, Mike Moodie, and a niece, Leretta Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Doris Moodie and Fran Moodie; and a nephew, Chuck Moodie.

Funeral services for David L. Moodie were held at Fergus Center for the Performing Arts at Fergus High School on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. Interment with Military Honors by Fergus American Legion Post #16 at Lewistown City Cemetery preceded the service at the high school.
