Dale M. Jarman__________________________________
Dale M. Jarman, age 79, of Midland, S.D., died Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Dale Merle Jarman was born June 27, 1934, at his parents’ homestead, three miles west of Nowlin the son of Merle F. and Borghild (Dale) Jarman. He grew up and received his education at the Nowlin School until the eighth grade, and then attended Midland High School, graduating in 1953. After graduation, he remained on the ranch with his parents.
Dale was united in marriage to Joyce Loraine Petoske on January 11, 1957, in Nowlin, and to this union were born two daughters, Susan Lynn and June Joyce. They made their home on their ranch on the Bad River, where they resided their entire married life.
Dale was a hard working man, and an honest one at that, as he valued his word and handshake as good as a signed contract. He devoted his entire life working the ranch and being a steward of the land; he loved to work. He was very proud of the legacy and heritage of the ranch that his family had worked countless hours to maintain as he felt honored to receive the Century Farm Award on behalf of the family. He was a true cattleman, with a keen eye for judging cattle and horses as he developed and maintained an exceptional cattle herd throughout his life that he was proud of, but humbled about. Haying and calving season were two of his favorite times of the year. He was also an avid hunter and valued dearly the friendships that were developed because of it. A favorite pastime after work for him and Joyce was playing cards with their friends. However, what he valued most was his faith, spending time with his family, and being with his one and only love, his wife, Joyce.
Dale was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Midland.
Survivors include two daughters, June Huston and her husband, Doug, of Midland, and Susan Martin and her husband, Scott, of Midland; six grandchildren, Vance (Kristin) Martin, Sig (Carisa) Martin, Charity (Josh) McLaughlin, and Samantha, Spencer (Myra) and Sarah Huston; eight great-grandchildren Gunner, Kort and Jager McLaughlin, Fayth, Layne and Jaydon Martin, and Caeley and Sydney Martin; two sisters, Darlene Hagan and her husband, Dick, of Piedmont, and Jeannene Bach and her husband, Frank, of Riverton, Wyo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
