The Crew Agency staff were excited to be the first in South Dakota to be featured in the magazine. RCIS is the largest multi-peril crop insurance company, doing business in all 50 states. The spotlight is on the web at http://www.rcis.com/spotlight.ht ml.

Following is the article from the website.

The Crew Agency's office is in the Badlands Trading Post at the entrance to the Badlands National Park in southwestern South Dakota. The agency serves farmers and ranchers that predominately raise winter wheat and alfalfa for forage.

Grady and Bernice Crew started the agency in 1984. They both come from farming and ranching backgrounds, and their fathers each told them that managing risks in raising crops would be a great thing in western South Dakota. "I thought, if it's that good of a deal, I should be selling crop insurance", says Grady. The crop insurance business provided a supplemental income for the Crews, who realized that the ranch couldn't sustain the three families involved in the operation.

The Crews have seen a lot of changes in 20 years. The agency has grown from a part-time home business to a company with four agents. Tom Husband joined the agency in 2000 and Rusty Olney in 2004. Husband and Olney each had over 15 years experience in crop insurance and have contributed to the Crew Agency's growth and success.

The Crew Agency specializes in crop insurance, selling mainly wheat and forage coverage and are also beginning to sell livestock insurance in western South Dakota. The area served by the Crew Agency has been in a drought for the past four years.

To Grady and Tom, the biggest change over the years is the recognition on the part of customers and their bankers that crop insurance is a risk management tool that is necessary for their businesses to be successful. "The subsidies are better now, more crops are insured, and there are more rules and regulations," Tom adds.

The Crews, Husband and Olney provide personal, on-the-farm service that specializes exclusively in crop insurance. "We pride ourselves on integrity and superior service," Grady states. The Crew Agency feels that their knowledge of the product and of their customers along with the customer's needs are the key to their success.

The Crew Agency has been with RCIS since their beginning in 1984. "We have always been very loyal to RCIS and they have never let us down," says Grady. The Crew Agency sees RCIS as the leader in the crop insurance industry, both in service and in computer technology and software.

The Crew agents believe in community service, supporting local 4-H clubs, sporting and community events. Bernice is currently a member of the board of directors for the Badlands Natural History Association and Rusty serves on the local hospital board.
