Charlie Brunson, age 66, of Kadoka, SD, died March 11, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Services were held Monday, March 17, at the Belvidere Community Church, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Ushers were Bob Eckert and Jim Willert. Pallbearers were Tom DeVries, Casey Willard, Bob Schofield, Charlie Carlson, John Rodgers, Al Badure, Jerry Willuweit and Joe Thorn.
Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery.
Charlie W. Brunson was born June 17, 1941, in Murdo, SD, the son of Charles and Ada V. (Swan) Brunson. He grew up on the ranch near Belvidere and attended eight years at Prospect Valley Rural School, three years at Belvidere High School and graduated from the School of Agriculture in Brookings. As a young man he worked as a cowhand for Paul Berry for several years, and worked on various ranches in western South Dakota and Nebraska.
Charlie was united in marriage to Bonita Boyd in 1967, and to this union was born a daughter, Kelsey. They made their home on a ranch south of Belvidere.
On February 29, 1988, he married Jane Meyer in Nebraska and to this union were born five children, Frankie, Louie, Cody, Kylie and Wylie. They resided in rural Belvidere.
Charlie continued to work on ranches and also at the Philip Livestock Auction. After his retirement in 2002, he made his home in Kadoka, where he has since resided.
He was an avid horseman, and had a full page story in Life Magazine of trailing cattle in 1962.
Survivors include six children, Kelsey Euper of Tipton, MO, Frankie Rath and her husband, Robert, of Whiteman Air Force Base, MO, Kylie Brunson of Edgemont, Charles V. "Louie" Brunson of Kadoka, who travels with the rodeo circuit, Cody Brunson of Kadoka, and Wylie Brunson of Fairburn; two grandchildren, Wyatt Euper and Cyrus Rath; three brothers, Darrel Brunson of Rapid City, John "Jack" Brunson of Edgemont and James Brunson of Belvidere; two sisters, Judy Finck and her husband, Kenneth, of Piedmont, SD, and Darla Byrd and her husband, Terry, of Belle Fourche, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard "Bud" Brunson; and three sisters, Verna Hix, Jeanine Larson, and Virginia Brunson.
