Raymond Clements, Jr.

Area in which you live: Currently living in Ft. Pierre area until we find a place in Haakon County.
How long in area: Lived in Haakon County for over 30 years; raised on a ranch, attended rural elementary school, graduated from Philip High School, worked on family ranch.
Related activities, experience or skills: Certified South Dakota Law Enforcement Officer. Hot Springs Police Reserve. Custer County Deputy Sheriff stationed in Buffalo Gap and worked east side of Custer County. Custer State Park Law enforcement. Butte County Deputy Sheriff stationed in Newell where the county took care of the law enforcement. Several hours of training in interview and investigation, child forensic interviews, accident investigation and civil process.
Plans, changes or ideas, if elected: I am a firm believer in the community policing program – in other words being proactive, stopping it before it starts, rather than reactive, often it’s too late and has already happened. I would use a common sense approach by being more involved with the community and their activities. No one would ever go away from my door without an answer to a question or problem, and if I can’t help I will get them in touch with someone who can. You will never hear, “There is nothing we can do.”
Why are you the best candidate? I have worked under two sheriffs in two different areas. I have seen things that work well and some that do not. I believe with this experience I can provide a strong leadership for the Sheriff’s Office.
What are your top strengths for this position:? I enjoy getting out and visiting with the people in the county. I have also made a lot of contacts over the years that can help me perform my job.
