Bonnie J. O'Day
Bonnie J. O'Day, 80 year old resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at her home.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 5, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Nicholas Landsberger officiating.
Burial was in the Pierre Cemetery in Pierre, SD.
Bonnie was born September 26, 1928, in Ft. Pierre, SD, to Henry and Bernice Koch. The family moved a lot when Bonnie was growing up and she attended nine different schools by the 10th grade.
The family settled in Midland, SD, where she spent her high school years, graduating from Midland High School in 1946.
In June 1946, Bonnie began nurse's training in Aberdeen, SD, and completed the course in Sioux Falls, SD, as a registered nurse. She was hired by the Red Cross and moved to St. Louis, MO, to work in the polio/lung care unit in a hospital for a few years. She returned to Midland, SD, and supervised the care of the seven bed Midland Hospital until it closed.
In 1956, the family moved to Philip, SD, where she worked as a nurse supervisor, full- and part- time, while raising her family. Bonnie was then employed at a Pierre, SD, hospital as a nurse supervisor until moving to Little Falls in 1971. She worked at St. Gabriel's Hospital on the surgical floor for two years. She changed careers and worked as a ranch hand with Bob O'Day at the 101 Ranch raising South Devon cattle for 12 years. Since then, Bonnie has continued to work part time as a nurse at assisted living facilities.
Bonnie is survived by her sons, Donald (Gail) Jacobson of Ft. Pierre, SD, Jeffrey (Gayle) Jacobson of Little Falls, MN, and Jerry (Karen) Jacobson of Little Falls, MN; a daughter, Dawn Jacobson and special friend, Norm Slama; a brother, Dean Koch of Palm Springs, CA; a sister, Marge Koch of Palm Springs, CA; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.
