Betty M. Eliason
Funeral services for Betty M. Eliason, age 73, of Belle Fourche, were held Monday, December 19, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche with Pastor Gail Arnold officiating. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Betty Lou was born October 23, 1932, at Eagle Butte, SD, to George and Lydia (Jesser) Matz. The Lord called her home on Thursday, December 15, 2005.
Betty attended Eagle Butte Public School for 12 years, graduating in 1950. She attended Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen, SD, for 1 year. Betty lived in Butte, MT, and worked for the telephone company in the directory department until Nov-ember of 1954, when she and Myron R. Eliason were married on November 6th at the First Presbyterian Church in Butte.
The couple then resided at the Coast Guard Base, Samoa, CA, until January of 1955. They moved to North Platte, NE, and worked there until September 1956, at which time they moved to Lantry, SD, where they ranched and farmed until November 1999, when they retired and moved to Belle Fourche. Betty worked for Carv Thompson at the Eagle Butte Drugstore from 1974 to 1984.
Betty loved her family and it gave her great joy when they could all be together. She had many hobbies, including creating beautiful quilts and designing precious cards and stationery. She also wrote and printed her autobiography, as well as compiling numerous Family Heritage al-bums. She enjoyed shopping to add to her many collections. Betty loved music, especially hymns and country western. She also loved hats, balloons, and John Wayne movies.
It gave her great joy to serve the Lord. She was Treasurer at First Baptist Church of Eagle Butte, SD, for 22 years and she taught a children's Sunday School class for 13 years. In 2002-03, she was privileged to teach a weekly Senior Bible Study group at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche. She was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary of Rapid City.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Myron; a son, Dennis and wife, Lynne, of Rapid City, and bonus grandchildren, Travis (Heidi) Swift, Crystal (Brian) Bruinsma, Tyler Swift, and Darcy Swift; a daughter, Debra and her husband, Larry Eggleston, of Howard, CO; and grandsons, Aaron (Shantel) Eggleston, Tyrell Eggleston, and Heath Eggleston; one niece, Carole (Dave) Blaede; nephews, Larry (Janice) Ganje, Tom (Darlene) Matz, Michael Matz, Jon Matz; and a sister-in-law, Betty J. Matz.
Betty is also survived by Myron's brothers and their wives and families: Eldon (Lola) Eliason, Floyd (Margaret) Eliason, Lloyd (Florence) Eliason, and Harvey (Beverly) Eliason. Betty will be missed by many, including a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, one brother-in-law, and two nephews.
