Bessie Brozik

Bessie Brozik, age 90 of Rapid City, SD, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City.

Bessie Bouska was born November 10, 1919, the daughter of Czech immigrants Anton and Francis (Vtipil) Bouska in Wagner, SD. At a young age, she moved to Gregory with her family where she spent her growing up years.

Bessie married Frank Brozik on September 26, 1945. The couple lived north of Gregory where they farmed and raised two daughters. Bessie enjoyed her life on the farm where she nurtured their daughters, raised chickens, gardened, and helped her husband in the field. She also was very active in the First Baptist Church in Dixon. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, held a state mission office and served as officer and member of the Baptist Women's Group.

After her husband passed away on May 9, 1969, she and her daughter Deb, moved to Spearfish to be with her oldest daughter, Jan, who was attending college there. Bessie spent 18 years in Spearfish where she worked as a dietary aide at Lookout Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Spearfish Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for a number of years.

In 1987, Bessie moved to the Kadoka area. She lived for a time at Gateway Apartments in Kadoka and Prairie Village in Wall. Then she resided on the ranch with her daughter, Jan, and Jan's husband, Bob, for 17 years until she was admitted to Fountain Springs Health Care, where she resided for three and a half years.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Schultz and her husband, Todd, Black Hawk, and Jan Cerney and her husband, Bob, Philip; five grandchildren, Cory and Brent Schultz, Chad Cerney and his wife, Tacasa, Jodi Knuteson and her husband, Levi, and Cari Bachand and her husband, Casey; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Belle Cerney and Bradi Jo Bachand; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Bessie was preceded in death by twin sons, a grandson, her parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

Graveside services will take place at Bohemian National Cemetery in Gregory at a later date.

A memorial is established.
