Arlyss Reutter

Arlyss Reutter, age 85 of Kadoka, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Roxanne, in Fayetteville, N.C.

Arlyss Leone Gustafson was born January 18, 1926, in Bigfork, Minn., to Charles and Esther (Erickson) Gustafson.

Arlyss was baptized March 28, 1926, and was confirmed October 4, 1940, at Spruce Park Lutheran Brethren Church located in Bigfork.

She attended school for 11 years in Bigfork, after which she transferred to Lutheran Brethren Academy in Fergus Falls, Minn., for her senior year.

Following graduation, Arlyss worked at Honeywell Defense Plant in Minneapolis during World War II. Later she returned home where she began her career in nursing while employed by the Bigfork Hospital for several years. During that time, she also worked in the church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, which she enjoyed immensely.

Arlyss was united in marriage to Clarence Edwin Reutter on June 20, 1959, in Bigfork, Minn. They made their home in Kadoka, S.D., on the Reutter Ranch where they had two children, David Allen and Roxanne Kay.

Arlyss was active in local church organizations, which she enjoyed. She was an organist for over 55 years before she retired. She loved her gardening, crocheting, and quilt making. All her family and some friends had received afghans and quilts that she made over the years. Additonally, she enjoyed working outside on the ranch with her husband, Clarence.

Arlyss was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; a son, Dave; a grandson, Shane; her parents Charles and Esther; two brothers, Eugene and Arnold; and a sister, Arlyne.

Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter, Roxanne Britton and her husband, Henry, of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Gail Reutter of Kadoka; five grandchildren, Dustin, Mandi, Holli, Ashleigh and Nicole; four great-grandchildren, Corbin, Veronika, Hailey and Addison; one brother, Robert Gustafson and his wife, Sue, of Big Fork, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at the Belvidere Community Church in Belvidere, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.

Music will be provided by Syd Iwan, organist, and Mark Reiman, vocalist. Ushers are Tom DeVries and Jim Peters. Pallbearers are Bob and Herman Bork, Bill Eckert, Norman Buxcel, Jessie Kaufman and Merle Stilwell.

Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Kadoka.

A memorial is established.
