Ardeth L. Kendall

Ardeth L. Kendall, 80, Rapid City, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at her home.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Burial followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Ardeth was born January 18, 1930, at Volunteer, SD, to George and Ruth (Johnson) Hicks. She attended country school and graduated from Belle Fourche High School. She worked in the Montgomery Wards Store in Belle after graduation. She joined her parents in Custer where they owned a Dry Cleaners.

She married Ramsey L. Kendall on October 24, 1952, at Rapid City. They moved to Philip where she worked for an attorney and abstractor. She purchased the Abstract and Title Insurance business. Ramsey operated an insurance agency and together they operated their business from the same office.

In 1978, they moved to Boulder Canyon where they built their home. Ardeth commuted between her office in Philip and their home in the canyon for almost a year. After selling her business, she stayed home for awhile and then went to work as a legal secretary for Jackley and Flint in Sturgis. She retired in 1994 and moved to Rapid City in 2005.

Ardeth enjoyed traveling and reading. She loved visits with her children and grandchildren. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star in Philip, the Deadwood Methodist Church, and the National Association of Land and Title Examiners and Abstractors.

Survivors include her husband, Ramsey, Rapid City; sons, Steven (Pam) Kendall, Ft. Pierre, and Douglas (Donna) Kendall, Black Hawk; daughters, Karen Hanson, Rapid City, and Becky Kendall, Black Hawk; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma (Emmett) Drake, Oxnard, CA, and Wilma Helmer, Renton, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
