Annual budget approved by commissioners

The Haakon County Commissioners met in special session Tuesday, September 30, to finalize the 2009 budget.

Chairman Neal Brunskill noted two items from the provisional budget needed to be changed. Both involved incorrectly entered figures, one under the general fund and the other under the courthouse building fund.

Haakon County Auditor Patricia Freeman reentered the numbers. The board then approved the 2009 Haakon County Budget. The budget will be published in an upcoming Pioneer Review issue.

Freeman informed the board that a check for the Federal Emergency Management Agency funds had arrived late last week. The check amounted to $757,899.61. That amount included federal funds in the amount of $631,583.01 and state funds of $126,316.60.

Commissioner Rita O'Connell commended highway department administrative assistant Val Williams and highway superintendent Kenny Neville for their diligence in documenting everything from the June 2008 flooding. The department will continue to document the road repair work as per FEMA requirements.

Repair work is expected to continue through all of 2009. More than 190 areas have to be repaired throughout Haakon County.
