All welcome to Philip's Community Spirit Celebration
A "celebration of community spirit" event is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, at the Philip Volunteer Fire Hall and the Fire Hall Park.
As a graduation ceremony of Philip in the Horizons project, there will be a free ice-cream social. Everyone is invited. The Philip Chamber of Commerce will hold its July meeting at the same time and place.
"Citizens are invited to promote all the wonderful things their organization is involved in," said Britni Ross, a local member of the Horizons project. "These organizations and what they do actually promote the Philip area community. Each club, organization and group is to bring a poster board sign listing all the events, contributions, talents, etc. that the organization has that strengthen the Philip-area community through volunteerism." It will also be a time for groups to enlist volunteers. One organization will win a monetary donation, chosen by lottery, for attending.
"Our goal is to emphasize how important your role is in our community and to encourage more people to join in your organization's efforts. Additionally, we hope that we can encourage community partnerships between individuals and organizations that are working on similar projects. Basically, we are encouraging the community to strengthen your power to make a difference by working together," said Ross.
Ross concluded, "Lastly, all organizations that participate will have an opportunity to possibly receive a Sharing Community Spirit monetary award to be put toward one of your ongoing community betterment projects or a new project that your organization has wanted to do, but just needed a little extra encouragement for. It's a lottery. All we ask is for your organization's participation for this night where the focus is on fun and happiness derived from service to the community."
During the celebration, the community of Philip will also receive a grant check from Horizons, along with a laptop computer and printer for the library.
"Encourage your organization's members, friends and family to come and bring your lawn chairs," said Mary Burnett. "We hope you will help us spread the word about this event, and we look forward to seeing you there. Thank you again for the contributions you make to the quality of life we have here in Philip through arts and culture, education, community betterment, human services and economic development."
