Agnes Schmidt, age 89 of Draper, S.D., died Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Agnes Sorensen was born May 10, 1922, in Murdo, S.D., the daughter of Arthur and Frances (Farris) Sorensen. She attended elementary and high school in Murdo.
Agnes married Bennie Schmidt on February 17, 1940, in Sundance, Wyo. They worked together and enjoyed life on their farm east of Draper. She moved to Evergreen Manor in Pierre in 2003 and Kadoka Nursing Home in June 2010.
She held various jobs, helped run the family dairy in Draper, worked at Rollins Supply Store, and the Jones County Courthouse.
Agnes was a member of the United Methodist Church, Prairie Home Ladies, and the Happy Hour Club. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible school for many years.
Survivors include her son, Marvin "Tub" Schmidt and his wife, Marcie, of Draper; two grandsons, Todd Schmidt and his wife, Cathy, of Riverside, Calif., and Scott Schmidt of Greenville, S.C.; a great-grandson, Paul Schmidt; one "like-sister," Beulah Aske of Highmore, S.D.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; a son, Benny Lee; her parents; a brother, Lyal Sorensen; a sister, Esther Schmidt; and a "like-brother," Charles Farris.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 15, at the Methodist Church in Draper, with Pastor Gordon Higgins officiating.
Usher was Sam Seymour. Pallbearers were Tub, Todd, Scott and Paul Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers were the Kadoka Nursing Home staff, Prairie Home Ladies and the Happy Hour Club members.
Interment was in the Draper Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
