Dr. Williams R. Stone, Jr.__________________________

Williams R. “Bill” Stone, Jr., age 70, died on May 28, 2014, at the hospital hospice in Lincoln, Neb., with his wife Louise by his side. He died of lung failure.
Bill was born at Philip, S.D., on October 9, 1943. He was the first of five children born to Bill and Sylvia (Davis) Stone. He attended grade school in Rapid City and graduated from high school in Wall in 1961.


Anthony Venjohn_________________________________

Tony Venjohn, 37, of Piedmont, S.D., passed away May 25, 2014, in Piedmont due to a four-wheeler accident.
Tony was born April 7, 1977, in Miller, S.D., to Duke and Peg Venjohn. He attended St. Liborius Catholic School in Polo, S.D., and graduated high school from Miller. Tony attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, S.D., for a carpentry and civil engineering degree. He then moved to the Black Hills and took a job with the Department of Transportation in Rapid City.


Kenneth Vollmer__________________________________

Kenneth Robert “Kenny” Vollmer was born January 17, 1943, in Murdo, S.D., the son of Robert and Velma (Leek) Vollmer. He grew up in the Stamford area and attended Big White School in Mellette County. He later attended Jones County High School in Murdo, graduating in 1962.

Jerry Evers_____________________________

Jerry L. Evers, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services will be held Friday, May 30 at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Nebraska. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home and also after 9 a.m. Friday before the service.


Marvin Williams______________________

Marvin Williams, 92, of White River, S.D., passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility in Winner, S.D. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in White River. Burial followed in the White River Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Marvin Terrance Williams was born in a sod house near Kepa-Paha, South Dakota to Orilla and Ernest Williams. He grew up around the Winner area with his 11 brothers and sisters.


Murdo in May brings cars, visitors

Memorial Day services in Philip

Roll call of the dead was given. One poppy for each name called was placed on the grave. Flags drifted a bit in the light breeze. Soldiers, civilians, men, women, children – all stood in reverence to the long list of names slowly called. Memorial Day services began at the Philip Masonic Cemetery, and concluded at the American Legion Hall. The Color Guard, invocation, 21-gun salute, speakers Roger Porch and Lester Pearson, and the patriotic music were all simply extensions of the sobering “Taps” played by the graveside.


Memorial Day Services held in Wall and Quinn

Memorial Day Services were held in Wall and Quinn on Monday, May 26. Master of Ceremonies for the Quinn service which was held at 10:00 a.m., was John Tsitrian and guest speaker was Ridge Sandal. Music was provided by: Regan Simons, Kipp Cordes, Sayde Custis, Big White Singers and pianist Dawna Tsitrian. The Quinn VFW honored the departed at the Quinn Cemetery with the playing of “Taps” by Doug Estes and a 21 gun salute by the Quinn VFW Post 9120 and Carroll McDonald Post 246. A Memorial Day Program was held in Wall at the Wall Community Center at 1:30 p.m.


Emilie B. “Emmie” Reedy___________________________

Emilie B. “Emmie” Reedy, age 94, of Philip, S.D., died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Emilie B. “Emmie” Barcal was born August 27, 1919, at White River, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Sykora) Barcal. Emmie attended grade school in the Cody district and graduated from White River High School in 1938. After graduation, she clerked in stores in White River.


Randy Reckling___________________________________

Randy Reckling, age 66, of Philip, S.D., died Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Randy was born September 26, 1947, in Philip, S.D., the son of Alvin and Rosemary (Holecek) Reckling. He grew up in Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1965.
As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he made his home in the state of Washington.
Randy was united in marriage to Linda Johnson and to this union was born three children, Brian, Darin and Kimberly. The family made their home in Washington until 1981, when Randy moved back to Philip.
