Alma Weller

Alma Weller, 96, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Avera Eureka Health Care Center.
Alma Wolff, the last surviving child of Jacob and Christina (Gohl) Wolff, was born March 27, 1916, in McPherson County. She married Emil Weller on August 25, 1940. In 1955 she and Emil opened the Eureka Bakery which they operated until their retirement in 1974. She was a life time member of Zion American Lutheran Church.

Ruby Kosters

Ruby Helm Kosters, 74, of Pierre, SD, was called home to heaven on Thursday January 17, 2013, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre and has now joined the legions who walk with God.
Ruby Gene Helm was born March 30, 1938, to Frieda Belle (Seiler) and Arthur Henry Helm at their farm northwest of Java, SD. She attended country school through eighth grade and Java High School, graduating in 1956. Ruby attended business college for one year in Aberdeen and worked at the county courthouse serving in the treasurer’s office.

Earl Moe

Earl Moe, 89, Fulton, SD, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fulton. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday with Masonic Services at 7:00 pm at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Clifford D. “Cliff” Ramsey

Clifford D. “Cliff” Ramsey, age 81, of Philip, S.D., died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Clifford D. Ramsey was born May 13, 1931, in Philip, the son of Claude and Hilda (Sether) Ramsey. He attended Philip High School and as a junior, was part of the undefeated, unscored-upon football team. He graduated from Philip High School in 1950.
Cliff’s dad died when he was 13, so Cliff assisted in running his parents’ ranch at a young age. After high school he remained at the ranch.

Arnold C. Wolden

Arnold C. Wolden, age 95, of Philip, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, with his family at his side.
Arnold C. Wolden was born to Johanna (Running) and Anton Wolden on January 7, 1918 at home in Union County, South Dakota near Elk Point. Both of his parents emigrated from Norway. On March 9, 1930 the Wolden family moved to Philip from Beresford, SD, driving 2 Model T Fords, a 1918 and 1925 touring car. The family had loaded two box cars with livestock, machinery, and household goods.

Anthony J. “Tony” Quinn

Anthony J. "Tony" Quinn passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Custer Regional Senior Care.
Anthony was always proud to say that he was from Hudson Flat, 45 miles northeast of Philip. He was born December 4, 1929, to Peter and Charlotte (Phalen) Quinn. He was the youngest of five children, Jack, Margaret, Elizabeth and Leo.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and took Basic Training in Kentucky. After that, he was stationed in France, but due to medical issues he was medically discharged and came home to South Dakota in 1953.

Winona Bell Carson

Winona Bell Carson, age 94 of Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Winona Bell Ogle was born November 14, 1918, in Brownlee, Neb., the daughter of Charles L. and Jessie (Vian) Ogle. She grew up on a ranch 35 miles southeast of Valentine, Neb., where she attended rural school. As a young lady, she herded sheep for her grandfather, Vian.

Rose Marie Peterson

Rose Marie Peterson, 91, died on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, S.D.
Rose Marie Block was born in November of 1921 in Ft. Pierre to Fred and Clara (Jeitz) Block and was raised on the family farm near Midland. She was a graduate of Midland High School and Black Hills Beauty College in Rapid City. She then worked in Martin until she opened her own beauty shop in Philip.

Tressa Gabriel

Tressa Gabriel, age 90, of Philip, S.D., died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Tressa Belle Coleman was born October 24, 1922, in Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Orrin Wesley and Goldia Belle (Thomas) Coleman. She lived near Pisgah, Iowa, with her parents and older sister, Erma, until they left their home in the Loess Hills to move to Haakon County northwest of Philip, at the age of eight. They traveled at 45 mph in the Model T Ford while their personal belongings and livestock were shipped to Cottonwood on the train.

Elsie Penor

Funeral services for Elsie Penor, age 91, of Bison, South Dakota were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bison, SD. Pastor Gerhardt Juergens will officiate with burial in the Bison Cemetery.
A family service was held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bison followed by visitation until time of services at 11:00am.
