Zane Nelson___________________________________

Zane Nelson, age 28, of Philip, S.D., died Sunday morning, June 16, 2013, in Philip.
Zane George Nelson was born on January 11, 1985, to Dennis and Diana (Terkildsen) Nelson in Rosebud. He became the little brother to Heath Kennedy and Heather Nelson, and later the older brother of Dane Nelson, son of Dennis and Jana (Klug) Nelson.


June 17th

No foul play suspected in Philip man’s death

According to the South Dakota Attorney General’s office, as of Monday morning, June 17, there is no foul play suspected in the death of a Philip man.
Zane George Nelson, 28, son of Dennis Nelson and Diana Olivier, both of Philip, was found in downtown Philip just after midnight Sunday morning, June 16. He had earlier been at the local demolition derby and was celebrating his Philip High School 10-year class reunion.
According to Sara Rabern, public information officer with the Attorney General’s office, there is no foul play expected. A full autopsy is being conducted by the state.

Linda Kramer, age 67, of Philip, S.D., died April 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.


May Mednansky__________________

May Mednansky, age 91 of White River, S.D., died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Maryhouse in Pierre.
Juanita “May” Shouldis Mednansky was born to Charles and Mary A. (Atkins) Shouldis, December 12, 1921, in Mellette County.


Carol Ruth Borelson_________________

Carol Ruth Borelson, age 78, of Kadoka, S.D., formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Carol Ruth Borelson was born October 13, 1934 at New Underwood, the third daughter of Tobias “Toby” and Christine (Matthews) Borelson. The family resided in New Underwood for a while. After the accidental death of Carol’s oldest sister, Lorraine, the family moved to their Rapid City area ranch.


Laura Morgan___________________

Laura Morgan, age 102 of Philip, S.D., died May 28, 2013, at her son's home in Billings, Mont.
Laura Elizabeth Rossiter was born March 2, 1911, at West Fork, the daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Sutter) Rossiter. She grew up and attended rural school in the Milesville area, including first grade at the Chief Hump Rural School. After high school, she attended Spearfish Normal School for one year and came back and taught rural school in the Ottumwa area.


Carol Johnson______________________

Carol Elizabeth Johnson, age 94, of Faith, South Dakota, passed away on May, 28, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood, South Dakota.  She was born on December 25, 1918, in Kenmare, North Dakota while her mother and brothers were in transit back home from visiting relatives in Canada.


College National Finals Rodeo qualifiers

Shayna Miller and Trisha Price … qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in goat tying. The finals are in Casper, Wyo., June 9-15.

Shayna attends college at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas. Trisha attends Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. Both colleges are in the Central Plains Region.

Norma Jean Olney________________

Norma Jean Olney, age 85, of Kadoka, S.D., died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Norma Jean Slater was born February 2, 1928, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Marcus E. and Emma R. (Alger) Slater. As a child, she lived in Correctionville and Kingsley, Iowa, before moving to Kadoka in 1941.
Norma was united in marriage to Richard G. “Bud” Olney on March 28, 1949. To this union were born 10 children.
Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, matriarch and aunt.
