With his family by his side, George passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on July 11, 2014 after a long struggle with cancer.

Rosalie Ann Hudson_______________

Rosalie Ann Hudson, age 69, of Yankton, S.D., passed away with her family by her side at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton June 16, 2014.
Rosalie Ann was born August 12, 1944, in Philip to Edwil Dale and Evelyn (Gartner) Stephenson. She was baptized at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip and confirmed at Lutheran Memorial in Pierre.


Merlene E. Rank__________________

Merlene Elizabeth Rank, age 87, Rapid City, S.D., passed away Monday June 16, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Merlene was born on December 9, 1926, in Rapid City to Clarence and Margarite (Pitz) Root of Midland. She was raised in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1945.
Merlene married Thurman Rank on December 14, 1946, in Midland. The couple made their home in the Rapid City area from 1957 to 1972. From 1972 until Thurman’s death in 1993, they lived and ranched in the Hermosa area. She spent the last years of her life in Rapid City at Fairmont Grand Manor.

Willert is CowBos bronc ride winner

Jeff Willert, Belvidere, came out on top at Philip’s Invitational Matched Bronc ride, Friday, June 13. During the first round, shown above, Willert scored a 78 which was good enough to advance him to the short go. Winning the first round with a 79 was Travis Nelson, Philip. Willert’s ride in the short go scored 88 points. There was no score lower than an 81 from the eight riders in the short go.

Mike Shrader____________________________________

Mike Shrader, 55, of Pierre, S.D., died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at his home in Pierre
Mike was born June 30, 1958, in Sioux Falls to James and Barbara (Jessop) Shrader. He grew up in Sioux Falls, Philip and Ft. Pierre. While attending school in Ft. Pierre, he participated in track and cross country he also played the saxophone and won the John Phillips Sousa Award. He graduated from Stanley County High School in 1976. After high school, he attended Black Hills State for two years before moving to Arizona to work construction.

Pastor Alvin P. Brucklacher____________________

Alvin Perry Brucklacher was born January 16, 1930, in Freeman, South Dakota, the son of John F. and Edna E. (Downer) Brucklacher. Alvin grew up in Turner County 11 miles southeast of Freeman. He attended school at Salem Township District #47. Before he started grade school his mother was given a message from God, that her son Alvin was going to grow up to be a minister, but she never told him, because she did not want him to be a minister because she said so. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed when in the 8th grade.


Mark Burns______________

Mark Owen Burns, age 59, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Philip, S.D., died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home in Dubuque.
Mark Burns was born February 21, 1955, in Quinn. The family lived in Philip where Mark received his elementary education. They later moved to Spearfish, where Mark graduated from in 1973. After graduation, Mark attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Mark spend 18 years working in the banking industry. He has lived the last five years in Dubuque.


Leslie Handcock__________________________________

Leslie Handcock, age 88, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Long Valley, died June 8, 2014, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Leslie Howard Handcock was born on April 17, 1926, in a farmhouse near Vermillion, the son of Maurice and Mae (Severson) Handcock.
He moved with his parents and brother, Donald, to Long Valley in March of 1927. By the time he was 10 years old he had started his lifelong career of farming and ranching. He continued to drive a tractor for over 70 years. Leslie enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing baseball and square dancing.


Clark Morrison___________________________________

Clark Morrison, age 85, of Philip, S.D., died Friday, June 7, 2014, at his home in Philip
Clark E. Morrison was born July 9, 1928, in Philip, the son of Guy and Ethel (DeLand) Morrison. He grew up on a farm 22 miles northwest of Philip and attended Elbon Rural School in that area. He later attended Philip High School, graduating in 1946. As a young man he farmed and ranched with his parents.


Norman H. Sebade_________________________________________________

Norman Henry Sebade, 95, of Tacoma, Wa., passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014.
Norman was born in Wall, S.D. In 1938, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Crown. They were devoted to each other and their family.
Norman was a decorated Navy veteran of WWII. For most of his career he was superintendent for a large local construction company that built thousands of homes and apartments throughout the region. He also enjoyed passing on his vast knowledge by teaching carpentry for many years at Tacoma Vocation School.
