Larry Fiddler_____________________

Funeral services for Larry Fiddler, 54, of Promise, SD, were held Tuesday, July 23, at the Lakota Cultural Center, Eagle Butte with Ron Black Bird and Dana Dupris officiating. Music was provided by Wakiyan Maza Drum Group. A feed followed, with burial afterward at the Fiddler Ranch Cemetery. Casketbearers were Mike Shaving, Richard Walters, Mike Kennedy, Ted Eagle, Steve Brings Plenty, Tom Carlson, Mike Jewett, Dennis Rousseau, Romey Gunville, Elvis Handboy, Chad Olson, John Garreau, Rick Rousseau and Robert Walters.


Leonard Linn____________________

Leonard Jess Linn, 95, Sturgis, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Leonard was born September 24, 1917, in Arnold, NE, to Fred and Alice (Main) Linn. He grew up in the Dupree area, attended school in Dupree, and graduated in 1936.
Leonard married Violet Smith June 8, 1944, at Dupree. The first few years of their married life were spent living in a sheep wagon; they eventually purchased the Lars Peterson Ranch northwest of Dupree where they raised their four sons and ranched until moving to Sturgis in 2005.

Ronald Emly, age 55, of Bison, South Dakota and Mott, North Dakota, passed away as the result of a farming accident southwest of Bison, SD on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the American Lutheran Church in Bison, SD.

A memorial service will be held in Murdo on August 3, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Bible Church.
A funeral service for Lyn Peters, 46, of Killdeer, N.D., was held on Friday, July 26, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killdeer, with Pastor John Simonson officiating. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation for Lyn was held Thursday, July 25, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer with a prayer service.
Lyn passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, near his home in Killdeer.

Tillie Nesland celebrates 95 years

Nearly one hundred and fifty relatives, friends, and neighbors joined former Faith resident, Tillie Nesland, in Rapid City Saturday to help celebrate her 95th birthday. Tillie was born in Montana in 1918, moved to Faith at an early age, and has lived in more recent years in Mesa, Arizona and Rapid City. Her sons, Jim and Bob (Edie) plus grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister Noreen (Bob) Jensen and other relatives, nieces and nephews, attended from Colorado, New York, New Jersey, Beresford, Faith, Rapid City and other towns in South Dakota.


Lorraine Carlson___________________

Lorraine Carlson, 82, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at her home from complications of cancer.
She was born in Hettinger, North Dakota, to Otto and Beatrice Jensen of Sorum, South Dakota. She and Dewayne Carlson of Bison, South Dakota, were married July 2, 1931, in Rapid City.
She is survived by a son, Wade Carlson and (special friend, Margaret Joseph); a granddaughter, Mackenzie (Jason) Grimes; her two beloved great-granddaughters; nieces; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Craig; a sister, Joan Meyer; a brother, Reed Jensen; and her parents.


Donald D. “Don” Thorson___________

Donald D. “Don” Thorson, age 53, of Bartlesville, Okla,, formerly of Philip, S.D., died Saturday, July 13, 2013, while on vacation in Medford, Ore.


Mildred O’Grady________________

Mildred O’Grady, 82, died peacefully Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in New Underwood, S.D.
Mildred fought and overcame many battles with her health, including having a kidney transplant in 1992. She finally lost the battle when she contracted Para influenza and was welcomed home to rest in the arms of Jesus.


Floyd “Speed” Bendickson____________

Floyd “Speed” Bendickson, age 81 of Philip, S.D., died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Floyd B. “Speed” Bendickson, was born September 14, 1931, in Henning, Minn., the son of Benny and Bertha (Underhill) Bendickson. He started his ranching career working for Bob and Inga Blair at the age of 14.
Floyd enlisted into the U.S. Army in December, 1950 and served in the Army Rangers in Korea. He was wounded and was in the hospital in Japan. He returned home 1954.


Arla Faith Kunz__________________

Faith Kunz, age 73, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Philip, died Thursday evening, July 11, 2013, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Arla Faith Johnson was born on August 9, 1939 in Wasta to A.E. “Doll” and Fern (Crosmer) Johnson. She grew up in the heart of the Badlands in Interior and graduated valedictorian from Interior High School in 1957.
As a young woman, she moved to Omaha, Neb., to attend airline hostess training. In the fall of 1958, she attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, where she met her future husband, Ted K. Kunz.
