Gus Massett____________________

Gus Massett, age 62, died at his home in Las Vegas, Nev., on January 20, 2014.
He was born September 12, 1951, to Maggie (Massett) Hanson and stepfather, Raymond Hanson.
He grew up in Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1969.
He is survived by one daughter, Tonya Herron of Florida and her two daughters; his life partner, Deb Vogal, Las Vegas; two sisters, JoAnn Hanson, Spearfish, and Selma (Rick) Thorson, Philip; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Fr. Raymond Deisch_____________________________

Fr. Raymond Deisch, 78, passed away January 15, 2014, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Born January 10, 1936, in Presho to Lester and Mable (Martin) Deisch, he attended Presho Public Grade School. For his freshman and sophomore years of high school he went to St. Henry Prep School, Belleville, Ill.; as a junior and senior he went to Nazareth Hall, St. Paul, Minn. He attended Regis College for one year followed by St. John Seminary, Collegeville, Minn., where he earned his masters of divinity degree.

Alice Wilmarth, age 94, of Kadoka, S.D., died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Alice Paxton Bean was born May 3, 1919, at Hartford, Ky., the daughter of Ira D. and Bernice (Miller) Bean.

W.A. “Dub” Hotchkiss

W.A.”Dub”Hotchkiss, age 88, of Mud Butte, SD died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Friendship Villa Care Center in Miles City, Montana.
The funeral service will be held 1 pm Saturday, January 18th, 2014 the Opal Community Church in Opal. Visitation, with the family present, will be held 5 to 7 PM Friday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. During that time, at 6:30 pm, there will be a public prayer service and time of storytelling.  Interment will be held in the Opal Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Rainbow Bible Ranch or Gideon’s International. 

Irvin L. Thompson

Irvin L. Thompson, 98, rode his bronc through the gates of Heaven on January 14, 2014, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Faith Community Center with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial followed at 2:00 p.m. at the White Owl Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Marcus Hall.

Thelma Lewton_________________________________

Thelma (Eichenburger) Lewton, 70, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Thelma was born May 6, 1943, in Sturgis, S.D., to Robert and Laura (Harrington) Eichenburger. She attended schools in Sturgis and Nisland. Thelma lived in Nisland with her parents until she moved to Washington state for a short time to reside with her sister Dorothy and husband Loren Turnidge.

Raymond W. Dean______________________________

Raymond W. Dean, age 94, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Grindstone, died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City.
Raymond William Dean was born June 12, 1919, at Grindstone on his parents’ homestead. He was the first born child of Jack and Theresa (Poste) Dean. There were four children born to the family and they all helped on the farm where they were raised. Raymond finished schooling through the eighth grade at the Dean Elementary School which was located approximately one mile southeast of the Dean homestead.

Marilyn Ann Reynick_____________________________

Memorial services for Marilyn Ann Reynick, age 76, who died on December 10, 2013, at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington, Wyo., will be held at the Care Center for employees, friends and family on Thursday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m.
Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation and private family burial of the ashes will take place at a later date in Philip, S.D. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Marilyn’s memory to the Goshen Care Center.

Richard “Dick” Pinney___________________________

Richard “Dick” Pinney, age 70, of Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Richard Frank “Dick” Pinney was born May 20, 1943, in Bennett County, the son of James and Mildred (Morsett) Pinney. He grew up in the old Washabaugh and Jackson counties, receiving his education at the Sand Hills Rural School, Wanblee, before finishing his education in Kadoka.
At the age of 17, he joined the Army National Guard.

Margaret A. “Mickie” Hewlett______________________

Margaret A. “Mickie” Hewlett, 70, Philip, S.D., died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Mickie was born December 30, 1942, in Glendive, Mont., to Harold and Lucille (Johnson) Adkins and was raised on their family ranch in eastern Montana.
Mickie married Sonny Whiteman in November 1958 in Montana and with this union had two daughters, Cynthia and Camy. In July 1967, Mickie married Lyle Johnson in Rapid City and then moved to Australia to ranch with her parents. With this union they had a son, Randy.
